Live it!
When was the last time you felt like you were
getting away with something? The sense of getting away with something is
appealing to our sinful nature, but at the same time it is an indication that
we are out of step with God’s will. The next time you have feel like you are
getting away with something, repent and let that feeling drive you back to the
Lord.

This would be a great proverb to post on the
fridge, just be sure to add v.18 to your post-it, drawing a big circle around
the word “BUT.”

Who is contrasted here?
While one walks securely, what about the other?
Live it!
There is security that comes with integrity, with
living a blameless life – there is nothing to be found out! Consider your
personal conduct this past week. Have you been conducting yourself with
integrity? Is there anything to be found out, a crooked path you have taken? If
so confess it to the Lord and get secure in Him.
Share it!
Pray for the integrity of the people in your life.
Do you have someone who is a model of integrity for you? Encourage them by
sharing this proverb with them and letting them know they embody its truth for
you.

Here is a proverb that affirms the benefits of
generosity. So do the verses above and below it.
Live it!
List here many of the benefits of generosity, not
just the ones in this proverb but the ones you have experienced personally.
Determine to “refresh” someone even today.
Share it!
Generosity can be taught. But it is better caught,
meaning people will learn from our example of generosity. Invite someone to
participate in an act of generosity with you. Include your kids, your spouse,
or a friend in a generous act done for someone else. Show them that refreshing
others brings its own refreshment.
July 12, Proverbs 12

confess a lie. - In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

cannot be established, vs cannot be uprooted.

Turn to the 10 commandments in Exodus 20 and list
the number of the commandment that condemns lying.
Live it!
The truth will outlive a lie. A lie has what we
might call limited staying power. The little expression "only a moment"
is literally "till I wink again." That’s not long. Review your
speech of the last two days. Identify the times when you were not speaking
truth and get right with God and anyone else who may have been impacted by your
untruths.
Share it!
Imagine you are teaching the children this Sunday
at church and your task is to convey the truth of this proverb. How would you
teach it? What props might you use? How would you explain the idea that a lying
tongue lasts only a moment?

Look up these similar proverbs that address the
topic of idle talk: Proverbs 10:10; 17:28; 21.23. Mark them idle
talk.
Live it!
The lesson of this proverb seems to be that the
more we control our tongue the more we keep ourselves out of trouble. Determine
today to hold your tongue three times when you would like to say something, but
it isn’t necessary. At the end of the day look back and evaluate how the
control of your tongue made a difference.

Maybe you’ve heard a similar saying to this
proverb, loose lips sink ships. The old Arab proverb says "Take
heed that your tongue does not cut your throat." How would you paraphrase this proverb
to share with others. Write your paraphrase here.

What is the result of contentment (peace)? Of envy?
Live it!
Think of a time in your life when you felt most
content, most at peace. What was going on in your life at that time? What is it
that you envy now that is preventing greater peace in your life? Share that
with the Lord.
Share it!
Ask the people in your life today if they are
experiencing peace. Talk to them about how the Bible says envy is a peace
blocker. Share with them the areas where you are struggling with envy
and covenant to pray for one another.

Look up Pr 17.22 and write in a margin a reference to
Pr 15.13. Do the same here in the margin next to Pr 15.33, writing Pr 17.22.

If a happy heart is reflected in the face, then we
can assume that a sad face reflects a sad heart. Examine the faces you
encounter today. What kind of heart do they reflect? Ask the Lord to make you
more sensitive to the hurts and joys of others. What did your face reflect
today? Joy or sadness?
Share it!
Make it your personal challenge to make as many
people smile today as possible. Keep track and tally up the smiles at the end
of the day. Come on - you can make at least one person smile!!!
