to avoid him.

Today pray for your family members and friends,

Now at the top of that list write: Get wisdom.

Being captivated by the love of one’s wife is being
contrasted with what in vv.20 and 23?
Live it!
Vv.18 and 19 of this proverb are a blessing of a
father to a son. Pray for yourself if you are married and for the married
couples in your life, that they will be captivated by the love of their
spouses.

As you have opportunity, talk to the young people
in your life about the wisdom and the blessings of giving their heart and their
body to one person alone. I’ll never forget the lecture I received from an 84
year old man who told me of his own marital unfaithfulness and encouraged me to
be faithful to my young wife.

The proverbs have strong words for the man who
stirs up dissension. How would you define dissension? Look it up the word in a
dictionary for a definition so you are clear on the meaning.

Explain to someone in your life what dissension is,
its result of turning brother against brother, and its impact on the family and
the family of God. Ask t he Lord to protect you both from this sin.

Live it!
The youth in this proverb made a sudden decision to
follow this woman and when he did he began to act like a dumb animal. Tell the
Lord you want to be driven by His will and His purposes for your life, and not
by your animal passions.

One of the songs we sing in Vacation Bible School

What are some of the wicked things you hate? Among those
things you should hate are pride, arrogance, evil behavior and evil speech. Ask
the Lord to give you a passionate hate for these things. What does hating these
things involve for the follower of Christ?
Share it!
Let’s keep working on our definition of what it
means to fear the Lord. How would you define fearing the Lord given this
Proverb? Ask someone you know what it means to them to fear the Lord. Is hating
evil included in their definition? Can you introduce them to this idea?
