slow to anger. – In Jesus Name. Amen

Look up these Proverbs and write the reference Pr
20.3 next to them. As you read them note what the wise person does in relation
to quarreling. Pr 17.14, 28; 18.2
Live it!
Do you jump at a chance at a quarrel or do you look
for ways to sidestep a fight and stirring up strife? We can’t avoid conflict altogether,
nor should we, but we should avoid fruitless, unnecessary squabbling as much as
it is possible with us. Does this speak to a situation in your life? Be a person
of honor; be slow to enter into a quarrel.
Share it!
Who is the hothead in your life? Pray for that
person, that God would convict them of their quarrelsomeness. Invite them to
study the Proverbs. Tell them about this study and how it can be accessed on
the internet.

Victory in the Lord
Prayer: Lord, help me to put my trust in your strength and
not in my own strength as I live daily for you. - In Jesus Name. Amen

Observations to Make:
Pick any five proverbs in a row in this chapter,
think about each one, and write out in a few of your own words a command
implied in each proverb.

Look up Dt 17.16 and note
the command. The concern appears to be that the kings would put their trust in
their own strength, represented by the horses, as opposed to trusting in the
strength of the Lord. Next to Pr 21.31 write the reference Dt
17.16.
Live it!
In what areas of your life are you depending on
your own resources rather than on the Lord for strength? The last time you were
in trouble, what or who came to your mind first as a source of help? Determine
to draw your strength from the Lord.

This proverb doesn’t discourage us from preparing
ourselves for life’s battles in appropriate ways, but it does remind us that
ultimately victory in those battles rests with the Lord. This is a proverb to
post on the fridge and discuss its meaning with those who read it.

What is the warning about debt communicated in this
verse?
Live it!
We become subservient to those we are indebted to.
In ancient time the Israelites sold themselves into slavery to pay off debt. You
can read about this in Exodus 21.2-7. Is it fair to say that the modern debtor is
selling themselves into slavery? Take advantage of this proverb to review your
indebtedness. How much money do you owe to other people? Ask the Lord for
wisdom and fortitude to pursue freedom. Many in our church have discovered the
resources on the website www.daveramsey.com.

Here is a balance to yesterday’s proverb. While we
want to work off our indebtedness so that we are not a slave to our lender, at
the same time we don’t to be a slave to the pursuit of riches. Rather we trust
that daily God will richly bless us as we pursue and do His will. Proceed to
read verse 5 for the reason for not wearing ourselves out to get riches - they disappear quickly.
Share it!
Who do you know who is wearing themselves out to
get rich? Pray for them and look for a chance to share this proverb. Talk to a
young person in your life about avoiding indebtedness while at the same time
not making the pursuit of riches their life pursuit.

up. – In Jesus Name, Amen.

to the scheming of evil men. Write down the verse references here.

Look up Psalm 37.23-24. How does this verse express
the same sentiment as our proverb.
Live it!
Isn’t it an encouragement to know the Lord has the
righteous in his hands and lifts them up no matter what evil men scheme against
them. Can you think of a time when the Lord has lifted you up after falling? Let
the knowledge that He will sustain encourage you when you face your next
challenge.

Lord picked you up after a fall. Ask another Christian to share his or her
story with you regarding the same. Praise God!!

Without self control a person is vulnerable, just
as a city with broken down walls is open to attack. In what areas in your life
is the wall of self-control in need of attention? In the space below identify
areas where you desire greater self control in your life and then commit this
need to the Lord.
