Those who are wise listen to advice rather than
show contempt for others’ opinions. Does pride keep you from considering the opinions
of others? What areas of your life are you less likely to consider the advice
of others because of your own pride?

This week seek the counsel of a believer in relation
to a particular problem that you have been reluctant to discuss with others.

you keep talking about doing but you haven’t done it? Talk to the Lord about this
and if you are led, determine to focus some sweat equity in pursuing this
particular goal.

Encourage someone else who has shared their plans
with you. How far have they gotten in the pursuit of their goal? Don’t be a
nag, but be a cheerleader. Is there something you can offer to spur on their
efforts?

Live it!
Though Solomon lived in a day when warriors were
held in high esteem, and power and strength were seen as the greatest good,
here Solomon states that patience is preferable to power. Do you value patience
in this way? Look for opportunities today to exercise patience.

Share with someone else what it is that causes you
to lose your patience and your temper. Ask them to pray for you to grow more
mature in Christ.

Do you think there is an implied command in this
proverb? If so, what?

This proverb seems to be speaking about the impact
of cross examination in a courtroom. Do you consider yourself someone who
carefully gathers information about an issue, or are you quick to rush to
judgment?

This is an excellent proverb to memorize. Write it
out over and over again until you have committed it to memory. Memorizing the
proverbs makes them easier to share with others.

Live it!
The hot-tempered person is one whose anger is
constantly getting him or her into trouble. Unless he or she changes his or her
ways that person will continue to make costly mistakes and always need bailing
out. Identify a hot head in your life. Pray for that person and at the same
time determine to no longer excuse that person’s behavior. Give them over to
the Lord for Him to discipline them.

Talk to the younger people in your life about what
is involved in controlling their tempers and the high price of losing them.
